If you've been over on our Instagram page recently, you will have seen that we have been slowly releasing images of our recently completed Collingwood project. This was a Kitchen and Bathroom renovation designed by us and built by KMC Group. The design and documentation stages of this project took approximately 6 months to complete, and we thought it would be interesting to take you through how we arrived at our final design.
BEFORE
The existing Kitchen was a U-shape and didn't extend to make use of the section below the staircase. The client, Sarah, was quite happy with the layout, but was interested to see another layout options as well to compare. She was also happy with the original bathroom layout, but wanted both spaces renovated to be more modern and suit her style. Sarah expressed a love of mid-century design and of the colour green, both of which became starting points for our renovation.
DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The early concept stages for this project included a moodboard for each space as well as the two layout options for the kitchen. After seeing an option similar to the original layout and an option to have a separate island bench, Sarah chose the kitchen layout with an island bench. Sarah was very trusting of my vision and loved the design straight away. As a result, the design didn't change much from this original concept. However, we did swap to a lighter timber-look colour to help make the Kitchen feel as bright as possible - especially since the only natural light into this area is on the opposite side of the room. After our samples meeting on site, we also finalised the bathroom tiles, made the bathroom mirror larger, and swapped the feature green in the kitchen to the shelves instead. Below you can see the two kitchen layout options, the original bathroom moodboard, 3D renders showing the two timber look colours we played with and the final bathroom 3D renders. Following this, we were ready to document the project for the builder, creating a finishes schedule and plans for site.
FINAL RESULT
We are so happy with how this renovation has turned out. The construction period was very straightforward, and the team at KMC Group did a fantastic job. Our client Sarah is also very happy with her new spaces, which is my favourite part of this job. Check out her testimonial below:
