A well-designed study is essential for boosting productivity and comfort. From clever storage solutions to subtle lighting touches, there are many ways to elevate the look and feel of your workspace. In this guide, we’ll explore five impactful design ideas that can transform your study into a more organised and inspiring environment. Whether you're working with a compact nook or a spacious home office, these tips will help you make the most of your space.
1 | Integrated storage
Design joinery that keeps your study clutter-free and functional with clever concealed storage. Consider pull-out shelves, integrated filing drawers, or pop-up power points that hide when not in use. If you don't want it to be visible, consider putting the printer into a cupboard on a slide out shelf. Lastly, We also recommend including power points inside cupboards that can be used for charging items out of sight. By concealing bulky items or tech gadgets, you maintain a streamlined look while ensuring everything you need is still accessible.
2 | Cable management
By the time you connect a computer, speakers, wifi, and any chargers you may need, you will probably have a lot of cables. We recommend managing these by installing multiple power points above and below the desk, then using a gap or hole within the desktop to pass cables through. If you want to take it a step further, consider installing a joinery box in front of the power points below the desk, that can hide the cables out of the way.
3 | Take the joinery to the ceiling
Storage is something that every home can benefit from. Whether you have closed cupboards or open shelves, we recommend taking your joinery all the way to the ceiling. The higher shelves or cupboards can be used for less used items or paperwork that you need to keep but don't need to access often. To avoid dust, We recommend closed cupboards at the very top. However, you can still make them look open if you prefer, by using glass doors instead.
4 | LED Strips
Lighting is incredibly important in a space where you will be performing tasks that require concentration. We highly suggest task lighting right above the desk, and a great way to do this is to include integrated LED strips to the underside of any cupboards or shelves. If you plan to have more open shelves to display items that you'd like to show off, then you can add LED strips above each of the shelves as well.
5 | Acoustic panels
If you plan to take calls often, you're sharing the study with others or the study is situated right next to a bedroom or living area, you will probably want some something helps dampen sounds. As well as good insulation within the surrounding walls, we recommend acoustic panels. I particularly like ones that look like timber paneling or that can double as a pin board.
