A clutter-free bedroom and walk-in robe can create a sense of calm, making your space feel more serene and inviting. With a few thoughtful design choices and smart organisation techniques, you can transform these areas into a sanctuary that reflects your lifestyle. In this blog post, we’ll explore five practical tips to help you minimise clutter and maximise functionality in your bedroom and robe:
1 | Be completely realistic
The first step is to think about how you use your bedroom and robe, and how you do your laundry. It doesn't make sense to think about how you wish you would do it or how you think it should be done - be realistic! For example, does your clean laundry sit in a basket for a few days because you hate folding? Then maybe you need to hang everything instead. Or do you have a pile of dirty clothes in the corner of your room that you eventually take to the laundry? Maybe you need to include a laundry hamper within your robe.
2 | Add as much storage as possible
I have never met anyone who has told me they have too much storage. If storage is an issue for you, I would suggest to maximise this by taking your robes to the ceiling, making use of smart storage solutions (like drawer dividers and pull out mechanisms), getting a bed with inbuilt storage below, getting wide bedside tables (with drawers over open shelves if you're likely to fill it like I do!), adding hooks to your walls and maybe even a nice ottoman to sit at the end of the bed.
3 | Consider adding robe storage at your entry
Reduce the clutter in your room and robe, by storing things like coats, shoes and accessories in the place that you are likely to put on and take off - your entry. This is often called a 'mud room' and we have a whole blog post about this which you can read below:
4 | Go calm and serene with colours and furnishings
If you're already struggling with clutter, then selecting bold patterns and lots of bright colour is likely to add to the overwhelm. Instead, go with neutral and/or soft colours with subtle or minimal pattern. I particularly love greens and blues in the bedroom to create an atmosphere of calm and serenity. Stick to simple, streamlined furnishings and avoid heavy, ornate pieces as well. This will help the room feel airy and prevent visual clutter.
5 | Adopt a 'less is more' mindset
Storage can only do so much. It is also helpful to be mindful of what you buy. An option is to use the 'one in, one out' rule, when buying new items. This can help you to keep only what you truly love and need, instead of a robe full of things you might wear 'one day'. Routinely clear out clothes, shoes, and accessories, by donating or selling items that no longer serve you.
