5 Bold Schemes for Powder Rooms

The powder room is the perfect place to go bold as it's a small space that all of your guests will use. In addition, unlike a main bathroom or ensuite, a powder room usually doesn't have a high focus on practicality and function. This allows you to add in bold choices you normally wouldn't make for a main bathroom, or for any main area like a kitchen or lounge. In this post, we'll explore five ideas that can completely transform your powder room into a space your guests will remember.

Moody bathroom design

1 | Dark and moody

If you follow us on Instagram and you've been keeping up with our Wednesday 'weekly inspiration' stories you will see that I love dark and moody powder rooms. I love the drama and boldness, and it's a scheme that can be difficult to do in other spaces. For this scheme to work, we suggest selecting a dark tone first, like a moody blue, green or purple, then building on that. Add some texture in tiles, concrete basins and natural stone vanities for more visual interest.

2 | Colour Drenched

Colour drenching  is when you design a room to be all in the one colour, and it's usually a fun or bold colour that is used. Imagine a pink powder room, with pink tiles, pink joinery, a pink basin, a pink painted ceiling and rose gold tapware. You can use any colour to colour drench a space, but it will have more of an impact if you use a fun colour like a pink, orange or yellow!

3 | Immersive Pattern

The powder room is a great place to go bold with pattern. This could be a patterned tile or a wallpaper, it could be geometric patterns or soft florals, and it could be a large scale pattern or a small scale pattern with lots of repeats. No matter what sort of pattern you are going for, our suggestion is to go all out with it. Add the pattern on all the walls, floor to ceiling, to create a really immersive experience when you walk into the space.

4 | Texture on texture

This scheme is all about layering different types of textures to create interest. Think about pairing tiles with micro-cement walls, with a timber and/or stone vanity, and a textured basin. you can then add your tapware and interesting wall lights as the last layer. If you're not really fond of colour or pattern, this is a great way to add interest and be bold. You can still have a neutral colour scheme, but the layering of different textures will give your space that wow factor!

5 | Choose a theme

If there is something you and your family really love, why not make it the theme for your powder room! The theme can be anything from a movie, to a breed of dog, or even a type of hobby. Feel free to be creative and use this theme to select the colours and/or patterns you'll use, the shape of mirrors, basins and wall lights, and even little details like cabinetry handles or wall hooks.

I hope these ideas have been helpful! If you want to find out more about how we can help you with your project, get in contact with us below:

Have a wonderful week!
