3 ways to finish your bath hob

We've already written blog posts about the different types of baths available for your bathroom, but this time we are focusing on the inset bath only, and the hob that it sits in. The hob is a timber structure that supports the bath, which is plastered, waterproofed and tiled. This makes inset baths a lot more practical and easy to clean than freestanding options. If you are considering an inset bath in a hob for your new build or renovation, but you're not sure how to finish it, we've got 3 ideas for you:

1 | Follow the floor tiles up

An easy way to visually extend your floor space and make the room feel larger is by continuing your floor tile up onto the bath hob. This is particularly helpful for smaller bathrooms. Floor tiles are usually larger and easy to clean, which makes the bath hob easy to maintain as well.

2 | Add feature tiles

Depending on the location of your bath, this could be a great place to add some feature tiles. This is particularly impactful if your door opens up to face your bath straight on. We recommend subway tiles, small square tiles and kit-kat mosaic tiles as a great option for this. However, feature tiles don't need to be bold, it could just be a matter of doing a different tile onto the bath hob. You can also continue the feature tile onto the wall/s behind the bath if this suits the space.

3 | Wrap it in stone

Another way to make the bath a feature is by using a stone instead of a tile. The whole bath could be wrapped in the stone, or you can do the top of the bath hob only, using tiles on the front instead. You may like to do the same stone on the bath as you have on the vanity benchtop, or you can make the bath more of a feature by selecting a bold stone to go there only. Another option is to select an undermount bath, which sits under the stone and looks more minimal and luxurious.
